Choosing a Vet
Lacey has a cough. It’s not a dry, throaty cough. It’s deep and harsh. The vet called it a wet cough. Since she’s been at a shelter, I thought it might be kennel cough. But the vet thought it might be allergies instead and I’m now giving her an antihistimine, much to my chagrin.
This vet was very thorough in her examination, and it was a straightforward, medical exam. I knew it would be such, and I also wanted to get a feel for how open she is to some alternative ideas, practices, etc. Not very open, I found out.
How did I find this vet? I did a Google search for vets in my area, found a directory of different animal services, this one came recommended. I checked out their web site and gave them a call. The vet seems knowledgeable and the office is conveniently located to my house.
However, this type of care does not address the whole picture for me. I take care of my own body using primarily alternative means, and I’d like to do as much for Lacey if I can find the right practitioner. For instance, I’m now in search of a good chiropractor for her. She was hit by a car about a month ago. Surely there’s spinal misalignment. I would also like to work with someone who is a raw food advocate. This vet was not. So, my search continues.
Just because I chose this vet for an initial visit, doesn’t mean I have to stick with this vet. And if I need a conveniently located vet who practices vet medicine, I know where to go. I’ll be looking for alternative practitioners in my area now. Will keep you posted.
