BARF or rather Bones and Raw Food for Dogs

I’m really getting into the raw food thing for Lacey. I’ve been giving her meaty rib bones and raw chicken necks for over a week now. Along with the dry kibble.

I’ve been reading quite a bit, and found these two great websites for beginning raw fooders and for overall information about raw food for dogs and their general health. Really good sites.

I’m taking her off kibble completely now. And no more grains at all, unless I soak them in water for a few days first, which sprouts them and ferments them. But dogs don’t need grain.

Today, I made a veggie concoction of raw sweet potato, carrot, and green beans. Added a little canned tuna and she scarfed it down. This morning I gave her a raw chicken neck and a little kibble (which she didn’t even touch after the chicken neck). Tonight, I’ll give her another chicken neck.

For tomorrow, I’ll feed her twice only. Raw chicken neck in the morning (she gets this outside on the patio) and some veggie mix with a little tuna and possibly flax oil. Then at night one or two chicken necks. If I’m really adventurous, I’ll go out and get some organ meats — offal, I think they call it.

I’m also going to call and see where else I can get things like chicken backs and turkey necks. Maybe I’ll just put a call into Jimbos –they seemed pretty accommodating when I picked up the first batch of chicken necks.

Will keep writing about this and giving more good links. It so important what we feed our dogs. They depend on us to give them good quality food, since they’re not out scavenging for themselves anymore in the wilderness.

Did you check out the pictures yet? My brother said he likes the action shots best.

Anyway….
