Housebreaking and the House Lead
Lacey is not housebroken. And she’s got stomach upset. Do you know when your stomach doesn’t feel good and your bowels are “loose” (to put it kindly), when you have to go, you have to go? Well, that’s where we are.
And it takes a lot of consistency from me to keep her from having that “oh God, I’ve got to go NOW” thing happen on any given piece of carpeting. I’m not so successful — YET. I still have hope!
I bought a house lead today, which is an essential for housetraining if you don’t want to keep the dog in a crate all the time. It’s simply a small bolt snap, like the snap on leashes (about $2 at any hardware store) and some twine tied to it — about 6-8 feet. This is an indoor leash that doesn’t get hung on thing.
She’ll be wearing it indoors for the next few weeks. This way, she can’t get away from me — all I have to do is step on the string. Also, I can keep her right with me all the time, so crating is not necessary all the time. I tie her to the chair I’m working from or to my belt loop. I can give her as much freedom as I choose. Very cool tool.
You gotta be careful though if you use this. Any time I walk out of the room, she’s wound herself around something by the time I get back.
And I’ll still use the crate too.
I’m still trying to get pictures up in the Wordpress blog. Should be way easier than it’s turning out to be. Maybe tomorrow I’ll get that figured out.
Time for “on the grass” and “please pee!”
Anna
