Dog Food — Raw and Dry
Feeding my new puppy is quite challenging — Lacey is turning out to be a very finicky eater. And her gastrointestinal tract is equally finicky, which makes housebreaking …. well …. even more challenging.
Here’s what I fed yesterday and it seemed to work. I bought her some organic kibble, which she’ll only eat completely dry if she’s really hungry. So I mixed it with a raw egg and let it sit for 20 minutes. She loved it. Then for lunch and dinner she had raw hamburger mixed with the kibble. Also a hit. Then last night as a snack, I gave her a little bit of the dry kibble by itself and she ate it.
Her stool is still really soft, but it’s getting better. I think getting her on some decent food (as opposed to what the humane society gives, which is a lot of times donated, so is not the best quality, but it works for their purposes) has really helped.
This morning I increased the quantity of kibble, added an egg and half an avocado, mixed it up, let it sit for 20 minutes and she wolfed it down.
Next time I go to Whole Foods or Jimbos, I’m going to ask about raw chicken necks. Those are also good nutrition and since they’re throwaway chicken parts, hopefully won’t be too expensive.
Knowing what to feed your dog can sometimes be really confusing. Stay tuned and I’ll tell you lots more about what’s working for my finicky girl with the sensitive tummy.
