About
This dog blog is about my dog Lacey and her life with me, from the beginning.
I had a dog, a West Highland White Terrier named Gretchen, for 12 1/2 years. She died about 3 years ago. She raised me from a young adult (I got her when I was about 22 years old) into full adulthood. Most of the time she was with me, it was just the two of us. I loved her like she was my child.
In the last year or so, I’ve been thinking of getting another dog. I’ve talked to my dog trainer friend (Neal), and we’ve discussed it ad-nauseum. The big difference now is that I live with 6 other adults and an 18-year-old. So I’ve had conversations with them too about having a dog around the house (we already have 2 cats and a bunch of fish — all these are Kevin’s, the 18-year-old.).
I did quite a bit of prep work before I got Lacey. I looked at all the local shelters, and finally went online to petfinder.com. Lacey was in an animal control facility about 5 hours from San Diego, where I live. When I called about her, I knew she was my dog. So I drove up there to get her.
This blog starts the day I picked her up in Hanford, CA. I was trained as a dog trainer and did that for a living for a brief time, so I have some good dog training skills and I know how to be with a dog. I know that sounds odd, but you’ll see what I mean as you read through the posts. However, there’s a lot I don’t know about dogs and dog training. That’s where my friend and dog trainer extraordinaire, Neal, comes in. I call her and ask for advice. As in “HELP! What do I do???!!!”
I also do a lot of research, try different things to see what works best, etc. So if you keep reading, you’ll learn by my trial-and-error what works and what doesn’t with all kinds of things related to dogs. Keep reading. I love writing and it would be so great for me if my experience could help out someone else.
Comment on the posts — I’d love to hear your feedback, ideas, thoughts. But please don’t slam, spam, or bring any negativity to the blog. It’s all done in good spirit and from a lot of love.
Also, check out the RSS feed document and get this blog streamed into your computer. Now that’s a good way to keep up. My brother does that so he doesn’t have to remember to check every day to see what’s been posted.
Anyway, happy reading.
I love my dog.
Anna
