BARF and Poop — the not-so-gross scoop

Saturday, June 17th, 2006

Let’s talk for a minute about BARF (that is, Bones And Raw Food) and the poop that results from this way of eating.
Here’s Lacey typical diet (that she absolutely loves). Everything comes from Whole Foods or Jimbos, so if it’s not completely organic, it’s all-natural, hormone/pesticide free, cage free, etc etc.
Breakfast (after a 20-30 minute […]

Advantage for Fleas …….. and Ticks?

Sunday, May 21st, 2006

Hardly. Advantage doesn’t work on ticks. Advantage works on fleas, and boy does it kill fleas. Yesterday was our second Advantage treatment. I put Lacey in her crate to sleep because last time I treated her, the place she slept had tons of dead and barely alive fleas when she got up.
This morning I immediately […]

Raw Chicken for Dogs — The Stinkier the Better

Friday, May 19th, 2006

Here’s an update on the raw chicken we have every day. I’ve written about giving raw chicken to Lacey a couple of times — BARF and raw chicken and raw food and raw chicken.
Lacey gets either 2-3 raw chicken necks or 1-2 raw chicken backs every day as a meal. I order them from Jimbos […]

Getting Rid of Fleas — Again

Tuesday, May 16th, 2006

Fleas, fleas, fleas — do they ever go away or even just get managed?? Here’s the beginning of the story — yikes! my girl has fleas!, flea control the gentle way, and Advantage, the wonder flea product.
Before I left on my trip, I sprinkled Borax on the carpet in some of the Lacey-frequented rooms (Linda […]

Today I left Lacey at home…..

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006

…. and when I got home, the house was a wreck.
I left her home because one of my housemates likes to have her home when everyone else is gone for the day. I’ve left her home before and she was fine.
I’m not sure what happened today. I’ve had the conversation with everyone that if Lacey’s […]

Separation Anxiety

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

Who’s got separation anxiety? ME!!!
I left Lacey at home today when I did my errands and went to work. One of my housemates asked me if I would leave her home, so I did.
O my god — I missed her so much. Having her with me is so comforting. There was a huge empty space […]

Separation Anxiety in Dogs

Saturday, April 22nd, 2006

Today was the first day I’ve been away from Lacey for the whole day. I left early in the morning and didn’t get home until after dark (7:30 or so). There were other people in the house, but she’s used to being with me all the time. I’ve left her for a couple of hours […]

Advantage for Fleas; Antibiotics and Herbs for Cough

Friday, April 21st, 2006

Lacey’s blood work was about normal, except she has a high white cell count. Which, according to Dr. Bob, means she has some kind of infection, which is likely causing the cough.
I got the antibiotics and the herbs — 4 pills twice a day. Do you know how hard it is to give a dog […]

Great Vet with FLEA Solution

Thursday, April 20th, 2006

I went to the vet who practices all kinds of different methods of health care for dogs. Acupuncture, homeopathy, manipulation, vet medicine, oriental medicine, and probably lots of other stuff.
He’s not a very social guy, but he knows his stuff really well. He gave her a once-over, took blood to see what’s going on, told […]

Chiropracters and Acupuncturists — for DOGS

Tuesday, April 18th, 2006

I found a chiropractor, who does acupuncture, homeopathy, and nutrition counseling, and all kinds of other alternative health techniques for DOGS! He’s also a medical vet, which is a bonus. His name is Dr. Smatt.
Here are some good web sites for finding a natural/holistic health guru for your pooch: Acupuncture Association for Dogs and […]
